The space is bright, inviting, and — at first take — just a tiny bit overwhelming. But the crystal clear signage allows shoppers to dive into the maze of shelves without ever really fearing they’ll get lost. From bestsellers to birding books, each section of the two-story shop is carefully arranged and dotted with thoughtful shelf talkers from the staff. Factor in the hundreds of face-out titles on every shelf, end caps, and tables, and it’s nearly impossible not to find a treasure or three.
Even better, a coffee shop toward the back of the store offers delicious Mexican Hot Chocolate (among other treats) and ample seating for those whose book shopping stamina isn’t quite up to snuff, or for those who merely find themselves in need of a break from the hours of browsing BookPeople makes possible.
Not only is it a wonderful place to shop, but BookPeople is the epicenter of Austin’s fantastic literary community. I’m looking forward to experiencing all it has to offer.
